The recurrent break-ins were leading to serious injuries and even deaths for the offenders. The financial and legal consequences of such security breaches were significant for Powerlink. Maximising site security as quickly as possible was imperative.
The extremely tight timeframe required the upgrading of five to six sites simultaneously. The program of works was immense, comprising the installation and construction of 6km of trench with conduit, 150 cable pits, 120 concrete slabs, 30 new pedestrian gates, 1km of mowing strip and earthing grid extensions and other variation works. It also involved replacing 4km of chainwire fencing and 100 gates.
With some sites situated two to three hours apart, this presented massive challenges for logistics, onsite project management and resourcing of both staff and materials.
Fencepac had to think differently to execute such a large-scale, complex project smoothly and with absolute precision. By looking for a smarter way to execute the brief, we delivered a more cost-effective and streamlined solution.
Our precise placement of cable pits and conduit routes reduced the length of trenching, saving money and increasing safety. Utilising the topography of the sites, we were also able to reduce drainage costs, and our large vacuum excavation process enabled us to safely identify services without damaging any existing infrastructure.
Fencepac assembled a team of in-house specialists and subcontractors to handle all aspects of this project, and quickly mobilised them to the various sites to construct and install. Our experienced project manager was supported by qualified on-site superintendents to ensure construction work performed at all sites was of the highest quality.
Despite an extremely tight timing schedule and multiple geographical and logistical difficulties, Fencepac delivered a successful and cost-effective security solution along with our project partners, Chubb Security and Ruswin Security.
Our strategic advice and innovative thinking added value at every stage. Instead of seeing roadblocks, we looked for ways do things better. It was our proactive search for a better solution that kept project overheads to a minimum, reducing trenching by hundreds of meters and saving our client valuable time.
