This project involved substantial fencing upgrades, the installation of a vibration fence detection system, security lighting and CCTV security at 13 different site locations. Over the full 24-month project period, all works needed to be completed with minimal disruption to the live track network. The stabling yards and stations needed to remain fully operational to enable QR to continue rail scheduling
without adverse affect to the public.
These project parameters created significant safety and programming challenges. Both safety protocols and the program of works needed to be precisely planned and executed across the 13 sites. Any site closures had to be applied for 90 days in advance. If this window of opportunity was missed, the entire project could be delayed for up to three months.
To achieve the level of precision this project demanded, Fencepac needed to collaborate closely with Queensland Rail. Before the project commenced, we worked with them to design and trial several different fencing materials to establish which was most effective at protecting against vandals. The end result was a highly innovative combination of two different materials, overlaid to form a uniquely secure barrier against unlawful entry.
Our overall project methodology was uncompromising in its precision, and placed safety as the highest priority. Exclusion zones, excavation works and handling of all materials onsite were carefully planned well in advance. We kept our client informed at all stages, updating our program of works every 14 days and submitting to Queensland Rail with cash flow projections.
Although outside our core offering, we also constructed an innovative vibration detection cable and CCTV system to capture and monitor any movement within the sites instantly with pinpoint accuracy.
Our highly collaborative approach achieved a very successful security upgrade solution for Queensland Rail. From the innovative anti-vandal material we co-designed, to our overarching methodology and high-quality construction, Fencepac delivered an outstanding result.
Over 90% of all feeder station works were completed with no interruption to the power grid, there were zero lost time injuries, and we delivered under budget and ahead of schedule. Importantly, our ability to effectively handle the associated security detection and monitoring systems made the overall project smoother and easier for our client.
